JWs took off from work in 1975?
by skeeter1 ina friend of mine is an electrician supervisor.
back in 1975, one of his employees was a jw.
the jw was so convinced that 1975 would bring the end of the world, that the jw took off from work (like, the first week in january) and sat on the top of a north carolina mountain waiting for armegheddon.

I know of a couple of Kiwi families that sold up and bought motorhomes so that they could spend the last days pioneering. They were still living in their buses years after Jehovah forgot to show up.

Strange things happening...
by DS211 insome strange things are happening.. 1. wife started smoking.
2. wife agreed that the whole "clean up after armageddon while growing to perfection" thing is all speculation.. 3. as i was going to the meeting tonight (i had a part and kids are sick so she stayed in) she says "do you have to go?"..
4. when i got home she says " i wanna go out and party..... hmmmmmm.

Is it just me or has this site become a Believer/Atheist warzone?
by BU2B ini enjoy the odd thread about evoloution vs creation, etc but lately it seems that a large percentage of threads here devolve into fighting between atheists and theists and distract from what most of us here see eye to eye on, the wt and related things.
i wish things could be more civil here and fr people to realize that people will never see eye to eye on the topic.
it gets so tiring to see the contstant bickring and fighting on those threads.. they seem to go on page after page but very little of substance is discussed seeing as the existence or non existence of a god can be proven by anyone.

A word they are re-defining to fit their new definition of 'this generation' is 'contemporary'. Look it up in any dictionary.

There is nothing about this word that suggests a mere overlap. The kids you went to school with are your contemporaries, not your teachers, headmasters, grandparents, greatgrandparents, greatgrandchildren, etc..
Make your Dubs take a position, then look up the word and get them to explain it to you.
You always have to get your Dub to take a position before you ask them any awkward question. They will deny a whole raft of embarrassing doctrines and attitudes if they know what you are targetting, so steal their opportunity to do that before you ask your question.
... and don't forget to smile and look like a potential convert or lost sheep while you do it.

by AllTimeJeff infor the last year or so, the opening lyrics to gloria estefan's "always tomorrow" have been howling at me.. i've been alone inside myself, far too long.
never really wanted it that way, but i let it happen..... .
(btw, the message in that song is great for former jw's, if you want to think about the lyrics that way....).

When I go to a new town, I do the rounds of the pubs and clubs and find one that has a nice atmosphere. It doesn't matter that I don't know anyone there.
I don't refuse any offers.
After a few years of not refusing any offers, you will be a 'local' and will be getting offers you can not bring yourself to refuse. You wouldn't believe what I have volunteered to do this weekend. It will be a helluva lot of fun for everyone involved.
....my Dubs have to do whatever my Dubs do on a weekend .... every weekend .... Yay for them.

by Crazyguy infirst i made love to my wife, maybe i'm better in bed then i thought, because about an hour after that my wife comes back in and i'm sitting at my desk and i asked her, "when the elders df me are you going to leave me, spiritual endangerment and all" she said, no, i don't feel endangered and we talked awhile and i talked about da ing and not sure what to do, then i shared with her a toned down version of the da letter that i posted and that led to her asking about my beliefs and understandings of who the great crowd and 144k, heaven and earthly hopes.
i was even able to tell her how they changed or distorted the meaning of the word naos to show the great crowd not in heaven.
i was able to show her some of the scriptures from the da letter, able to tell her a little about 1914 and how jesus did'nt invisably come in a presence, showing her scriptures on that and some more ttatt.

That sounds great, but be careful. Don't do all her reasoning for her. Encourage her to arrive at conclusions that she owns because she has thought them through. Point her to information that she needs to know, then encourage her to think for herself.
Trying to become her new Guru might be a mistake.
